| "Palestine - Photography between art and testimony" |
| January 7th to January 31st, 2004. |
Italian Photographer Maurizio Vallebella opens the Cork Vision Centre ‘04 programme with a thought-provoking stills documentary that seeks to get behind the media reports and depict what everyday life is like for the ordinary Palestinian.
His photography springs from natural curiosity and a continuous exploration of the space in history that we occupy. |
Images of war-torn Palestine are attracting the crowds to the Cork Vision Centre.
An exhibition by Italian photographer. Maurizio Vallebella opened this week and his photos will adorn the walls of the centre at North Main Street until the end of January.
Already more than 150 people have visited the exhibition. “There has been a great response so far with people turning up from all over Cork,” said one of the organisers at the busy centre.
Pictures depict Palestinian people going about their daily business against a background of Israeli military occupation.
Children play in dusty, crumbling streets over-shadowed by huge armoured tanks. Their smiles in stark contrast to the grim faces of Israeli soldiers.
Other images in the photographic display portray the Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat as he stares wearily into a camera lens.
The exhibition will run until the end of the month, and Mr Valiebella will give a talk on his experiences in Palestine at the Vision Centre on Tuesday, January 20, at 1pm.
