PORTUGUESE COLOUR FOR CORK
Cork 24th August 2007: September brings a flavour of Portugal to Cork in the shape of a unique exhibition of Portuguese World Heritage sites, monuments and landscapes.
Derived from a great diversity of cultural creation Portugal – World Heritage presents a kaleidoscope of images reflecting Portugal’s historical influence in shaping the our modern world.
From the mid-15th century, Portugal became the gateway between Europe and other continents, promoting exchanges of trade, ideas and lifestyles, the mixing of races and the meeting of distant cultures.
All this is reflected in numerous examples of cultural heritage in Portugal, as well as numerous places throughout the world where the Portuguese left a touch of their inspiration. In turn, Portuguese is currently the sixth most widely spoken language in the world and the third most widely spoken European language after English and Spanish.
Visually striking, Portugal – World Heritage comes to Cork courtesy of the Embassy of Portugal and the Instituto Camoes. The exhibition’s Cork solo run is the first time it will go on display in Ireland.
Opening to the public on 7th September 2007 Portugal – World Heritage will be officially opened by His Excellency Paulo Castilho Ambassador of Portugal to Ireland at a reception at 6pm on Thursday 6th September 2007.
The Exhibition will run until 27th September 2007. Admission is free.
