Press Release:
‘Wavelength’: Mieke Vanmechelen.
January 3rd Cork: January sees the Cork Vision Centre 2007 programme kick off with ‘Wavelength’, by Mieke Vanmechelen, an Irish-Flemish Artist based in Kenmare, Co. Kerry.
Having moved to Kerry from her hometown of Antwerp, Belgium at the age of six, Mieke has, in her work, fused both Irish culture and landscape with Flemish traditions in painting.
There is a mystical dimension to Mieke’s work, quite difficult to define or pinpoint, it serves to add a powerful intensity that captivates the viewer’s attention and holds it.
Mieke’s work can be found in collections throughout both Europe and the U.S.
“I paint by means of thoughts and ideas that exist in my subconscious but cannot be pinned down by words and only expressed through paint”, says Mieke.
‘Wavelength’ will be officially launched by Bill Cullen, author, and Managing Director of Renault Ireland, at the Cork Vision Centre, North Main Street, Cork at 6pm on Tuesday 9th January 2007.
Opening to the public on 4th January, it will run until 30th January 2007.
