'Colourama' by P.J. O' Regan

December 2007

Press Release:Colourama artgraphs in an art activity system created by P.J. O'Regan of Lower Killeens, Blarney, Co. Cork; based on the colouring-in books many of us remember from our childhood days.

P.J. supplies outline drawings of everything from the scenery of Cork and Irish landmarks to Religious icons, Islamic Art, Ancient Egyptian Art and Mandalas of the World...in fact there are no subject limitations in his system.

'The beauty of this activity is that you don't have to worry about perspective, proportion or scaling; you just get on with what you most enjoy doing - colouring' so he explains.

'The act of adding the colours to the blank designs (assisted by a miniature colour guide) is extremely therapeutic' he continues, 'it helps the artist to focus, attain inner balance and relieve stress'

'It also produces a lasting reward in the form of a beautiful image. Everyone of which is unique, individual and bears the mark of the artist'.

So how did this former Transport Logistics Manager find himself promoting the therapeutic values of adding colour to Artgraphs?

'I became very ill in 1989 and was admitted to hospital, recalls P.J, 'I couldn't keep going the way I was.'

The doctor's advised PJ that he would have to retire from his business and focus on his health and well-being if he wanted to live for any length of time.

They suggested Art as a way to keep occupied and help with the healing process.

Not being a person who could undertake drawings himself, PJ hit on the idea of having an Artist create outline images for him to colour'

'I found the whole process incredible relaxing and fell in live with the art of colouring in the medium of Fibre-Tipped Pens and or Colouring Pencils.' He recalls, ' I knew I had found lifelong interest.'

Hungry for more images, PJ found a way to transfer photoraphs via computer into blank images and got to work creating designs in a wide range of subjects.

Skip 17 years down the line and PJ is now spreading the word...not for profit...but because he believes in the healing power from it.

From his home in Lower Killeens, PJ now produces CD-ROMs containing:

a) Mandalas of The World supplemented by Ancient Craft Art Images attached to which, is a miniature colouring guide - 100 images in total

b) Images in a wide range of subjects again numbering 100 plus colour guides

c) A mixture of images totalling 100 with colouring guides. (The choice is yours from our portfolio of more then 500).

In particular, PJ would welcome enquiries from Educators / Health Boards / Voluntary Health Organisations / The Prison Service and Community Groups. A nominal annual license fee will apply in each location to allow for photocopying.
