“Room To Manoeuvre” by Colaiste Stiofain Naofa
It is both an exciting and a difficult task to chose and work with artists and crafts-people who are at the start of their careers. in most cases, personal taste dictated my choice. In others, the professional standard of the work demanded greater recognition or there was a spark of something special that pointed towards greater things from their makers.
I gravitate towards design that acknowledges current visual trends, but does not merely imitate them. I also appreciate artists for whom imagination is more important than technical ability and whose creativity separates their work from the purely decorative.
With this in mind, the exhibition will consist of a purposely designed 'living' space that will create a context for and accommodate the work of the chosen students. At once a familiar domestic environment and an experimental installation, the show will act as a true collaboration between the students at Coláiste Stiofán Naofa and myself the curator.
