POLAND POSTER AT THE CORK VISION CENTRE
19th May Cork 2005: June 2005 sees the Cork Civic Trust Cork 2005 enormously successful Enlargement! project change gears and move into the vibrant colourful world of contempory Poster Art from Poland.
The 1CO1N exhibition at the Cork Vision Centre will be presented by two founding members of the Twozywo Group. Established in 1995, artists Krzysztof Sidorek and Mariusz Libel have remained creatively active and committed to the medium of poster and billboard art. Since the beginning, Twozywo has been interested in public space as a field of social communication. The methods and media that they use are addressed to passers-by - termed internauts, that is, generally accidental people physically or virtually travelling through communication and informatic systems. Many Twozywo public projects are still visible in many Polish cities, where posters, billboards, stencils and murals are presented directly in the streets.
In Twozywo's projects words and slogangs are key elements. Refusing to formulate any manifesto, they allow their work speck for them. Visually striking, and replete with a dynamic energy Twozywo's unique blend of poster and billboard visual media makes for a stimulating insight into the Polish contemporary art scene.
In the Cork Vision Centre, Twozywo will present some of their "classic" billboards, combined with works created specifically for Enlargement! -bringing the 'new' Europe to Cork and the Cork Vision Centre space.
1CO1N will be officially launched by the Rt. Hon. Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr Sean Martin. Opening to the public on Friday 3rd June, it will run until 30th June2005. |
