PRESS RELEASE
WONDERFUL WORLD OF ‘WIND WINGS & WAVES’
Cork: September 2008: Imagery of the wild Atlantic features at the Cork Vision Centre as it hosts a unique photographic Exhibition by Photographer Mick Mackey.
‘Wind Wings & Waves’ is a striking merger of art and photography with Mackey capturing aspects of the harsh Atlantic Sea in stunning detail.
This collection of photographs highlights the conditions that constantly confront those seabird populations that routinely use the productive Irish waters as a reliable source of food. Mackey’s sharp eye enables his lens to encapsulate the drama and spirit of nature.

According to Mackey this is the primary focus of his work.
“For the past seven years I have been employed with University College Cork, where I have spent many weeks at sea investigating the abundance and distribution of cetaceans and seabirds off the Irish west coast, while studying the seabirds that rely on the offshore waters of the northeast Atlantic Ocean for their survival”.
The photographs featured in this striking exhibition include Northern Fulmars scaling a 50ft wave and riding the Atlantic roller coaster, the Atlantic Ocean at the height of a gale force storm, as well as a photographic catalogue of the various behaviours that enable these hardy creatures to eek out an existence in this exposed and often unforgiving environment.
