PRESS RELEASE
OIREACHTAS EXHIBITION FIRST FOR VISION CENTRE
Cork October 2008 November 2008 sees the Cork Vision Centre @ St. Peter’s hosting its inaugural OIREACHTAS exhibition.
The exhibition will feature works selected by a panel of judges from the Oireachtas committee. A collective exhibition featuring a number of artists, OIREACHTAS features a feast of visual art across a wide media spectrum and runs in tandem with Oireachtas na Gaeilge a festival of Irish culture.
During the 7th century Oireachtas referred to a meeting or congregation of ruling authorities. To this day, Oireachtas na Gaeilge follows the tradition established by our ancestors hundreds of years ago, weloming young and old, the writer, the poet, the singer, the dancer, the artist, the storyteller, the actor, the impersonator, the composer of music and songs, the musician and the people of Ireland at home and abroad.
The 2008 Oireachtas Exhibition is being organised this year after a five year absence Artists are invited to compete in any of five disciplines - Painting, Sculpture, Glass, Textiles and Drawing.
The exhibition will also feature an exhibition of excellence in three crafts - Architectural model making, Furniture making and Silver Work. In so doing, the Cork Oireachtas Committee hope to further and promote a sense and understanding of good design.
Chief amongst the award categories will be The Douglas Hyde medal.
The exhibition will be officially launched on Wednesday 29th October @ 5.30pm at the Cork Vision Centre @ St. Peters, North Main Street Cork Gareth Bowne
The exhibition will be open to the public from Thursday 30th October to 29th November 2008.
