Getting ‘Out of Hand’ at the Cork Vision Centre
Cork: March 26th 2008: April 2008 sees the Cork Vision Centre host ‘Out of Hand’ a visually striking exhibition of paintings by Belfast born artist Eileen McGoldrick.
Recently returning to portrait and figurative painting after many years working as an abstract and landscape painter, ‘Out of Hand’ marks a dramatic change in Eileen’s work,
‘Out of Hand’ represents McGoldrick’s artistic desire to be free to use whatever medium she feels is appropriate to the subject matter. According to McGoldrick, ‘To be limited to one or two media would dilute the daily journey of creating new pieces that express different feelings and emotions.’
‘Out of Hand’ invites its audience to experience the humanity of the subject. The exhibition, in a variety of media from acrylics and oils to pastel and collage, features important Irish cultural figures, including the playwright Samuel Beckett, as well as more personal subjects,
Having lived and worked as an artist and tutor in Oxford, for 25 years, McGoldrick returned to Ireland in 2003 to paint full-time. Now based in Youghal, Eileen is intensely involved in its Art Community, co-founding the Youghal Visual Arts Festival as well founding the White Gables Artists Group. Her work is held in collections around Ireland as well as internationally.
Out of Hand will be launched by Dr. Peter Murray, Director, Crawford Municipal Gallery on Thursday 3rd April at 6pm in the Cork Vision Centre @ St Peter’s, North Main Street, Cork.
